Alexander County Assessor

NOTICE: Tax Bills should be arriving early November!!  Board of Review for 2025 Tax Year wrapped up on October 8th and decision notices were mailed out to those who submitted complaints and/or attended hearings.

IMPORTANT: When you receive your tax bill, please verify the exemptions listed on it. The most common exemptions are the General Homestead Exemption (commonly known as the Owner/Occupied Exemption) of up to $6,000 and the Senior Homestead (over 65) of up to $5,000. Other exemptions include disability and military disability. Most importantly, if you are over 65 and your annual household income is under $75,000, you will want to apply for the Senior Assessment Freeze. This freezes the valuation of your property for future reassessments. If you believe there is something missing, stop by or call our office at 618-734-7011. We are here to assist you!

Are you aware that you can reduce your taxes by applying for one or more exemptions for your primary residence? Give us a call or stop by the office to see what exemptions you might qualify for.

Submitting a Change of Address form will change the mailing address of your assessment notices and tax bills, NOT THE OWNERSHIP of the property. “No change of address shall be implemented unless the person requesting the change is the owner of the property, a trustee or a person holding the power of attorney from the owner or trustee of the property.” (35 ILCS 200/20-20).

Completed forms must be signed by the owner of record, trust officer, or POA holder and returned to our office in person or by mail. Please call if you need to submit via email.
